Students of MI: Alphonse

Earning a degree from the University of Michigan-Flint will give me security in my future because I know that the education I am receiving is of a quality that will help me excel in my career.

There is an added benefit that comes with earning your University of Michigan degree in Flint. To say you received your degree from UM-Flint is to battle the stereotype that surrounds Flint. It also shows that you as an individual are willing to take risks, to stand out from the crowd, and that you value your self-worth.

I am a board member for the National Association for Music Education at the University of Michigan-Flint, a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and a performer with the University of Michigan-Flint Wind Symphony.

I became a resident advisor (RA) because I want to encourage community. I transferred from a performing arts college, and I wanted to bring that same celebration of diversity to the University of Michigan-Flint.

I enjoy the community that is created when students have the opportunity to meet those who differ from what they are used to. Living on campus is easy and a great experience to have if you want to gain independence from living at home.

My advice to incoming students is don’t be afraid to be involved and make connections. Get to know your professors. Do things that will push you out of your comfort zone. These experiences and connections can only help your future.
