Brook, Computer Science
“I started working with computers, building them and troubleshooting for teachers, and then I heard about Michigan Tech. I realized it would be a great place for computer engineering. I got up here, took a circuits class, and it was everything I wanted it to be. Michigan Tech has given me so many opportunities.”

Gina, Business
“The connection you build with the instructors at Michigan Tech is really amazing. There’s a mutual respect between you and the professors, and they’re really there to develop your critical thinking and relational skills. Beyond class, the career fair here is huge – it’s definitely one of the big cornerstones to the school.”

Jarett, Biological Sciences
“I remember my senior year of high school, I was looking around at different schools and there was nothing super specific about Tech that drew me in, but I liked the location (two hours from home), and I had heard that it was a really good school. A lot of my friends told me it was too hard, which made me want to go here even more.”

Lauren, Biomedical Engineering
“I chose Michigan Tech because I knew I wanted to be an engineer. I saw Tech had a really high rate of employment and that was really attractive, along with the small classroom sizes. I’ve made really close friends and all my professors I’m super close with—because of the small class sizes, I can form great relationships with them, and I just feel really welcome here.”

Logan, Chemical Engineering
“One of the things that drew me to Michigan Technological University was the demographics of the school. When I was researching MTU, there were a lot of pictures that came up with diverse students. I was like, ‘This is a top engineering school and they have people of color!’ My first year here, I joined the Diversity Council, the Society of Intellectual Sisters and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). In NSBE we had actual professionals from companies like GM, Exxon Mobil and Toyota come to our meetings to give advice on how to interview, what to wear and things like that.”

Nichole, Engineering
“I was awarded the Leading Scholar award, which influenced my decision to attend MTU. Michigan Tech is a good fit for me because I like being outside, and there’s a lot to do in the Upper Peninsula. If I need to go home, I can, but I’m still far enough away where I feel like I’m not at home. There’s also a lot of educational and professional opportunities at a smaller university like this, which is also why I’m glad I chose Michigan Tech.”
